5 Reasons you should consider doing a first look
Have you thought about having a First Look at your wedding? I get it, a first look isn’t for everyone; but it might be for you! It is a modern tradition that is being added to wedding day timelines. A First Look is when a couple plans to see each other for the first time prior to the wedding ceremony. It is done in a private setting for a special moment together. I’ve been shooting weddings for 6 years, and have found the weddings that incorporate a First Look go smoother. Here are 5 reasons to consider a First Look on your wedding day:
1. Get more photos
As a photographer I want you to have as many opportunities for photos as possible; having a First Look does just that! Photos before and after the ceremony means double the content! A First Look also allows you to have a backup time slot if things run a little late. At the end of the day, photos are what you look back on from your wedding; and it is unfortunate when couples miss out on photo opportunities because of time-lines.
2. Reduce anxiety and nerves
Are you the type that gets nervous around crowds? Worried about tripping down the aisle? Is your other half worried about holding it together in front of guests? Then the First Look is for you! There is no pressure and you are able to act naturally without people looking at you (besides me behind the camera). Wedding day jitters disappear. Trust me, you will also be a little more relaxed walking down the aisle to your partner.
3. It’s a special moment
You have a moment to yourselves, to embrace each other before the big event. It’s a moment to be together to hug, laugh, cry, kiss in private without anyone around. You can actually talk to each other! This could be the only alone-time you will get all day.
4. Look your best!
The first look is right after you get ready. Everything is in place, your hair, makeup, and dress is perfect! Having a first look also gives you time to touch up before the ceremony.
5. Be present at your wedding
Sometimes formal photos run behind, but when a couple decides to do a first look, many of the formal photos can be done before the ceremony. This means more time to enjoy YOURSELVES! You can mingle with guests, actually attend cocktail hour, and have more time to relax because you got scheduled photos out of the way before the wedding even started. How awesome is that? Having a first look will ensure more time to celebrate your love with family and friends, and after all, that is what a wedding is all about.
